Children are our most important resource and those who have dedicated their lives to educating our children all deserve a safe environment to teach and to learn for the betterment of the next generation. They shouldn't spend their days in fear or be locked in a school as if it were a prison. With your help we can achieve a balance of safety and freedom for all involved that will improve the lives of children and educators alike with CausBuzz Maps. Using a high tech system of RFIDs and alert trackers we can eliminate unnecessary lock-downs and provide pinpoint trouble locations to steer others to safety in case of an emergency.
Why CausBuzz Maps?
Let’s imagine for a moment that it’s a typical morning in a community not far from your own. You watch as students scramble to get to school on time. And as you look more closely you notice that the school building that they are entering seems to resemble a prison rather than a place of learning. At the entrance you are greeted by metal detectors, security cameras and armed guards who monitor the students’ every move. You start to wonder, are these students, or criminals? Is there a better way to keep our kids safe?
Several studies have shown that the presence of security guards and metal detectors in schools negatively impacts students’ perceptions of safety and even increases fear among some students. But how can we protect our students without making them feel like they are criminals? CausBuzz Maps offers a unique solution that enables school personnel to monitor the learning environment without being overly invasive of student and teacher privacy.
The indoor tracking technology used by CausBuzz allows school officials to instantly identify the exact location of teachers, school staff, and even visitors within the school building when emergencies occur. With the CausBuzz Maps device, teachers can quickly and discreetly alert school personnel whenever an emergency (major or minor) arises.
How it Works
School X installed the CausBuzz Maps visitor management system allowing school personnel to track the exact location of visitors at all times, while they are on school grounds. During check-in, visitors are given a lanyard device to wear that is programmed with their destination. If a visitor removes the lanyard, or strays away from designated areas, school personnel are immediately alerted.
In addition, school X uses the CausBuzz Maps emergency response feature. Teachers and other school personnel wear a special device while on school grounds. If a teacher notices a medical emergency or dangerous situation, he/she can quickly alert school officials by pressing a button on the device. When the button is pressed, school personnel will immediately learn the type of emergency (i.e. medical, minor or major) and the exact location of the incident. This helps reduce the emergency response time. The device will only track the location of teachers and school personnel when the button is activated. Additionally, the device offers staff an effective way to discreetly communicate when use of the school PA system may jeopardize student safety.
We have completed the development of the software for the visitor management system, and the first generation hardware prototype for the emergency response system. The $6,000 will allow us to purchase the second generation hardware from our manufacturer.
A sum of $10,000 will allow us to test the emergency response system prototype within a school this fall.
