John Diehl has practiced law for over 35 years, representing primarily nonprofit organizations. He recently retired from his position as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Phoenix House Foundation, a large national charitable organization headquartered in New York City. Prior to that, John was a partner in the international law firm of Nixon Peabody LLC, where he represented colleges, universities and other exempt organizations throughout the country. John also served for many years as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Rochester. John is presently Co-Chair of the Greater Rochester Chapter of SCORE.
John earned his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics. Before seeking his law degree, John graduated from Macalester College and then earned a master’s degree in applied economics and finance from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester. John has also served as an adjunct professor at the Simon School, teaching graduate courses in law and economics.
